Agriculturalist advises farmers to embrace modern farming techniques
Mr Dannie Ubani, the Chief Executive Officer of Fortunewell Farms, Aba, has urged farmers in the state to embrace modern farming techniques in order to excel in the business.
Ubani gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Aba on Sunday.
He said that any farmer wishing to become successful must be conversant with contemporary farming procedures and have links with other successful farmers.
Ubani said that farming was a very rewarding business at all levels, because feeding was a basic human activity that took precedence over others.
“If you have not eaten well you cannot think of buying good phones, driving good cars or wearing good clothes. Prosperous nations have always taken agriculture seriously.
“So when you see people who have made their marks in other areas of human endeavour turning to farming, that gives you a good signal and a clear message.
“Oil revenue is dwindling and the only thing that can turn things round in this country now is farming,” he said.
Ubani urged people wishing to go into farming business but had not enough resources to start at low level.
“That empty space at the back of your house can be turned into a vegetable garden.
“You can have your starting point from there. Remember, Rome was not built in a day. Everything big started small”, he said.
The chief executive officer also advised would-be farmers to be patient and hardworking and shun the get-rich-quick attitude, if they wanted to succeed.
He also urged them to learn about weather and seasons because these were essential to success in the business of farming.
